The Cleansing Of Ullannor
With the fledgling Emperor's Children seconded to the mighty Luna Wolves, Horus shows Fulgrim and his legion the ways of war against the vile greenskin infesting the Ullannor system of planets.
With 5,000 points per side this truly was an Epic game. The marine lists were drawn up using the Heresy era lists available elsewhere on this site.
The final battle was to decide the fate of Ullannor. If the Orks succeeded in driving the legions back, the batteries of the orbiting battlebarges would unleash a salvo of Virus and Hellfire bombs...
Let the galaxy burn!
This was the first game using the modified Space Marine list found on the rules section on this site. Basically the changes mean that marine formations ca be larger than the E:A lists. When combined with the rule And They Shall Know No Fear the marine formations become very difficult to break. There is obviously some considerations as to whether this is balanced but the list was introduced for the Heresy campaign and would involve marines fighting marines so I guess it may just balance out for this instance.
With 4 large tactical formations from the Emperor's Children backed up by a Land Raider formation and Predator Armour, all led by Eidolon and the Luna Wolves rapid assault army backed up by a Warhound titan from the War Griffons legion and the Luna Wolves Justaerin formation waiting to teleport down the Orks should have feared the wrath of the Emperor!
Turn 1 started with some advance orders from both sides with the Orks doubling for the assaults in the next turn. Some early fire was exchanged and the Luna Wolves land raiders suffered and did not recover for the rest of the battle.
The Great Gragant rumbled forward doubling towards the objective in the ruined city in the middle of the board. The Emperor's Children advanced through the sparse ruins on the right flank.
Turn 2 began with a teleport drop on the Ork Big gunz from the Justaerin Tactical Dreadnoughts. With the initiative won the Terminators ripped the funz apart and advanced into the back line of the Orks. The Storm Boyzreacted tot he threat and engaged but were outmatched. The Ork left flank was crumbling.
The gargant made it to the centre of the battle and opened up on a tactical formation but with the majority in cover the casualties were minimal. The devastators and Warhoundopened upand vroke a large blitz brigade, annhilating a Gun Fortress in the process.
Lord Eidolon announced a combined assault with 3 tactical legions on the ork mob in the administratum building but did not count on the supporting fire of the other blitz brigade. The attack was resolutely defeated and Eidolon wimpered away. The Luna Wolves countered by air assaulting but despite great courage were forced to withdraw, leaving their Thunderhawk behind.
The Gargant came under fire from the othe Land Radier company and the 2 Felblades of the Luna Wolves, losing shields and sprouting fires in the process.
By turn 3 the Orks had clearly had enough and withdrew, allowing the Emperor's chosen to claim the city and would eventually exterminate all the green threat on the planet.
Result: Win for the Marines
